Flexco Belt Skivers: What They Do and Which One You Need

Flexco Belt Skivers: FSK2M, FSK2MP, FSK2MXL & FSK2MXLP MDS of Michigan

When a conveyor belt needs to be prepared for mechanical fasteners, the belt cover often needs to be removed before the fasteners are installed. That process is called skiving.

Simple explanation: A Flexco belt skiver removes the top cover of a conveyor belt so mechanical fasteners can sit lower and create a cleaner, more secure splice.

At MDS of Michigan, we sell Flexco belt skivers, conveyor belt lacing, fasteners, tools, and replacement parts for industrial belt repair and installation.

Why Use a Flexco Belt Skiver?

Skiving helps prepare the belt for fastener installation. By removing part of the belt cover, the fastener plates can sit more flush with the belt surface. This can help reduce interference with cleaners, pulleys, and other conveyor components.

  • Helps prepare conveyor belts for mechanical fasteners
  • Creates a lower-profile splice area
  • Improves fastener fit and installation consistency
  • Useful for belt repair, maintenance, and field service work

What Is the Difference Between the Flexco Skivers?

The biggest difference is the belt thickness range. The standard models are used for belts from about 6.4 mm to 31.8 mm, while the XL models are used for thicker belts from about 22.2 mm to 44.5 mm.

Quick tip: Choose the standard skiver for common belt thicknesses and the XL skiver when working with heavier, thicker conveyor belts.

The other difference is whether the skiver includes a metal fence. The metal fence helps guide the tool during skiving, which can make it easier to keep the cut straight and consistent across the belt.

Which Flexco Belt Skiver Should You Order?

  • FSK2MP / Item 30367: Standard powered skiver for 6.4 mm – 31.8 mm belts.
