What Is a Pressure Angle?
The pressure angle is the angle where the gear tooth transfers force between the gear and the rack.
Simple rule:
Lower angle = smoother contact
Higher angle = stronger tooth

The most important rule is simple:
Do not mix pressure angles.

If you are replacing an old gear or rack, check the existing part number, machine print, manual, or tooth profile before ordering. Many older machines used 14.5° pressure angle gears, while many newer industrial applications use 20° pressure angle gears because of the added tooth strength.
