Breaking roller chain—whether single, double, or triple strand—comes down to one simple process: pushing out a pin. That is exactly what the CB series chain breakers are designed to do.
Each breaker aligns with the chain’s pin and drives it cleanly out of the link, separating the chain without grinding, cutting, or damaging surrounding parts. This same process works whether you are working on a single row of chain or multiple rows side by side. For this reason, the single strand chain breakers are perfectly suited for double and triple strand roller chains, as long as the breaker size matches the chain size.
These chain breakers do not require special adapters or modifications to handle multiple strands. If you are working with ANSI #25 through #180, there is a correct breaker size to complete the job—regardless of how many strands the chain has.

How It Works (Single, Double, or Triple Strand Roller Chain)
The process does not change: Line up the pin. Turn the handle. Push the pin out. Job complete. Whether the chain has one row or three, each strand is still held together by the same type of pin—and this tool is designed to remove it.
The same breaker that works on a single strand of #60 chain will also work on double and triple strand #60 chain, because each strand’s pins can be accessed individually. Do not be misled by the name—these single strand chain breakers are fully capable of multi-strand use. With the correct size tool from the CB series, you can break:
